Highlander International have been nominated for 2 Lanarkshire Business Excellence awards being Lanarkshire’s best small business (50 employees or less) and Lanarkshire’s best family business award.
Highlander submitted an application form for both categories in November and we were informed today we are on the shortlist of three finalists for both categories. The next stage is for Highlander directors to attend an interview with three judges consisting of a 15 minute presentation and a 30 minute question and answer session thereafter, the interviews are being conducted on 11th January so any plans to drink excessively over the festive period will be curtailed accordingly!
The finalists will attend the awards evening to celebrate the success and achievements of Lanarkshire businesses and the winners will be announced at the Gala Awards Dinner held at the Radstone Hotel, Shawsburn on Friday 4 March 2016. These award nominations are even more remarkable given that Highlander have only been operating as a fully fledged recycling company for 2 years from our purpose built recycling centre in East Kilbride during which time over £500,000 have been invested in setting the operations up and installing a transport and processing infrastructure which is second to none in the trade.
Highlander director Stephen Duffy commented:
“We were asked to submit an application by our bank manager who has overseen our growth since moving into our building in East Kilbride but to be honest, we did not think it would lead anywhere “when we found out we had been placed on the shortlist for not just one award but two, we were gobsmacked! Now that we are on the shortlist however we will be looking to win both awards and hope that by winning, this would give all the staff some external recognition for all the hard work that has been done since we opened the factory in 2013 and the awards would also be dedicated to our long suffering better halves, who have to put up with the early starts, late finishes and perpetual grumpiness!”
